| A
Chromolithograph is a colored picture printed from a series of stone or metal plates,
the impression from each stone, plate, etc.
being in a different color. To
properly place so many stones, plates, etc., so that they are precisely
aligned one atop of the other, is a tremendous technical feat in itself.
|
| The
utilization of Photographic
Methods In Chromolithography were first experimented on in the year 1841 in America & in Ireland. In the case of these chromolithographs, which is the alliance of the camera and the lithographic stone, plate,
etc., there was usually a coat of varnish added. These are often times called
"GLOSSY'S". |

They
are EXTREMELY FRAGILE
because of their age and therefore we sell them matted and/or framed for the sake of display and preservation.
A) Keep the lithograph AWAY
FROM DIRECT LIGHT, ESPECIALLY DIRECT SUNLIGHT
since this
can cause a highly distructive . . . . . . . environment to prints, especially
colored prints. Pull down your shades or draw your curtains/drapes.
B)
Keep the lithograph Away From
Moisture since moisture causes mold to thrive,
especially on paper.
DO
NOT HANG IN . . . . . . . . . . . . BATHROOMS or even
THE KITCHEN, where moisture
